Janell Perez Mercado is an accomplished educator with a diverse range of experiences in the field of education. With over 18 years of experience, Janell has worked as a Science Teacher, Debate Coach, and Model UN Trainer at the Americas Bicultural School in the Dominican Republic. Currently, she works at the Administrative Ministry of the Presidency, serves at the National Presidential Management Council, and is a Bilingual Teacher at the Las Americas Institute of Technology (ITLA).
Janell has been actively involved in training programs such as the Montessori Model UN, where she supports student leadership and encourages their engagement in developing solutions for the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Social Impact projects. Since 2007, she has been working with high school and college programs, fostering student initiatives and promoting their active involvement.
In addition to her teaching roles, Janell has held various positions within the education sector. She served as the Language School Coordinator at ITLA and worked as an English and Business Immersion Program Supervisor for ILTAE and GCNH. She has also worked as an Academic Consultant for the University of Dayton Publishing, representing them in the Dominican Republic. Furthermore, Janell has been hired as a Public Forum Debate judge in multiple Annual Harvard National Forensics Tournaments from 2015 to 2020.
Janell’s dedication to environmental education and awareness is commendable. She is an awarded member of the Dominican Environmental Education Program (DEEP), which aims to foster an understanding of global warming and environmental issues among Dominican teens. The program empowers students to actively promote positive programs and policies that protect the island’s ecosystems and prepare for the potential impacts of climate change.
Janell’s involvement in debate and Model UN extends beyond the classroom. She has served as a paid judge for Public Forum Tournaments at Harvard University. She has been a debate coach and sponsor at prestigious events such as the Yale Invitational Debate and the Princeton University UN Model Conference. She has also represented her school and organizations at various conferences and events, including the United Nations Civil Society Conference and the Washington Model UN Conference.
As a co-founder of the Webster Education Group, Janell has played a significant role in organizing and participating in UN Models in the Dominican Republic. Her commitment to academic excellence and passion for international standards have been recognized through awards and accolades.
