Dr. Gerardo Octavio Vargas Landeros
Dr. Gerardo Octavio Vargas Landeros, the current Mayor of the Municipality of Ahome and National President of the Association of Local Authorities of Mexico (AALMAC), is distinguished by his performance in public service, but first and foremost, by his social work.
He recently received an Honorary Doctorate from the Fiat Lux College of the Colima Center for Educational Research in Philanthropy.
At around 60 years of age, Vargas Landeros has dedicated over 40 years to public and private service, and in both, he maintains a clean and recognized record.
He has served as the Secretary of Government of the State of Sinaloa, Manager of the Drinking Water Board of the municipalities of Mazatlán and Ahome, Federal Deputy, and an official of the Ministry of the Interior of the Federal Government, among other representations. He is currently the Mayor of the Municipality of Ahome for the National Regeneration Movement Party (MORENA).
Upon his arrival at the Municipal Government of Ahome in 2021, he immediately sought to reform and energize the structure of the City Council. The first thing he did was create the Municipal Institute for the Comprehensive Development of People with Disabilities (IMDIS), the first of its kind in the State of Sinaloa and one of the first in the country.
Similarly, with a visionary spirit, he created the Directorate of Tourism, which has distinguished itself nationally and internationally by rescuing this practice and government service and positioning the Municipality of Ahome, Port of Topolobampo, and of course, the city of Los Mochis, in the national and international spotlight.
An example is that, within the framework of the 120th anniversary of the city of Los Mochis, the capital of the Municipality of Ahome, the National Meeting of Tourist Municipalities was celebrated, with the participation of around 60 coastal municipal entities from the country. It was a unique event of its kind in the AALMAC program.
In the same framework of the 120th anniversary of Los Mochis, the capital of the Municipality of Ahome, Mayor Gerardo Octavio Vargas Landeros presented the initiative that July 1 be declared by the State Congress of Sinaloa as the “Day of the Sinaloense Band”, in tribute to the creator of the Sinaloense tambora music, Mr. Cruz Lizárraga, recognized internationally. The collegiate body approved this initiative of legislators.
Like this, there are other government actions and social services that distinguish the work and performance of Gerardo Octavio Vargas Landeros in both the public and private sectors, which undoubtedly position him as one of the citizens with the greatest roots and recognition among Sinaloan and Ahomense society for his commendable performance.
As a municipal governor, he also innovated with the Fair of Well-being program, which has been divided into Well-being in Your Neighborhood and Well-being in Your Community, where the structure of the Municipal Government moves in full to communities and neighborhoods to serve the citizens in their areas.
The themes of Health, Tourism, Security, Education, and more changes in the way society is served in general, transforming the way of governing, and other areas, are distinguishing features that can be corroborated on websites such as INEGI and public opinion consultation platforms like https://www.mitofsky.mx, https://www.inegi.org.mx, https://demoscopiadigital.com.
